"I'd like to share with other students. How do I meet them?"
We have a list of all first year students who are looking for rented accommodation. You can contact each other and get into groups to find houses together. We also hold a house-hunting event in August/September (see below) where you can look around properties and meet other students who are looking to share rented accommodation.
We also have a Facebook page where you can contact other students looking for accommodation in Hastings (see below).

Our halls of residence for students studying at University Centre Hastings are Robert Tressell Halls at Warrior Square, St Leonards-on- Sea which are approximately 15 minutes walk, along the seafront, from the University Centre in Havelock Road Hastings. All study/bedrooms have an en-suite shower room and the use of a shared kitchen. Utility bills and internet connection are included in the rent.
Once you have your confirmed your course place at the university, you will be eligible to apply for a place in the halls of residence.

If you prefer to look for accommodation in the private sector, the university's accommodation database, http://www.brightonstudentpad.co.uk/, lists details of local properties. You can also use studentpad to chat to other students who are coming to study at the University of Brighton, the University of Sussex, and University Centre Hastings.
To access the service you will need to have a password. Contact our Accommodation Officer Linda Allen, contact details at top of the page. (You will need to have your UCAS student number to hand).
You need to have your student number and a password from the university's accommodation office to visit studentpad.
For more information about the halls of residence or how to access studentpad and general accommodation advice, please contact Linda Allen at the details above.
Contact University Centre Hastings' Accommodation Officer, Linda Allen, direct. Contact details are at the top of the page. She can help advise you in finding accommodation. Please contact her if you have any difficulty accessing the guides etc.
If you have accepted an offer of a place from the university you will be sent an accommodation handbook that covers all the details of finding a home.
We also hold a list of landlords in the Hastings and St Leonards area which you are welcome to use. The list is held in the UCH Centre office on level 3.
We have recently launched our Facebook page which enables users of the site to network with other students and find potential housemates. The privacy settings are quite strict for our page; we will only accept friend requests from students who we can confirm fall into ALL of the following categories:
•- University of Brighton students
•- First year students (starting in September 2010)
•- Students who will be studying in Hastings at either the University Centre Hastings (UCH) or at Sussex Coast College (SCC). If you are unsure where you will be studying please let us know and we will be able to tell you
•- Students looking for accommodation in the private sector from September 2010 onwards
If your friend request is accepted you will be able to do the following things:
•- View comments posted by other students and respond to them
•- Have access to links to other University related pages and information
•- View the other members or ‘friends' of our page
•- Receive invitations to events such as the House-hunting event(s)
We first set up the Facebook page last year and found it to be one of the most effective ways of networking students. To find us, type Hastings accommodation in the search box on your Facebook account. Click Add as a friend then Add a personal message and provide us with your full name, student number and date of birth.
(Please note that there are a number of pages titled ‘Hastings Accommodation' so in order to find the correct one please use Hastings accommodation when searching.)
On Wednesday 1st September we will be holding our house-hunting event which gives you the opportunity to get housing advice and meet other students (some of which you may have befriended on Facebook). You will meet the Hastings accommodation team who will help you find a home. Details of this event have not yet been confirmed.

"I share a rented house with four other students. I didn't know any of them before I started here but now we are all really good friends. We met through the UCH accommodation office who initially arranged for us to meet and luckily we hit it off immediately.
Sharing with other students gives you an instant group of friends and it's really fun. My flatmates are all on the same course as me and between home, UCH and socialising we spend a lot of time together. Living with other students is a great experience and sharing the responsibility of renting can help make leaving home a bit easier".
