How do I apply?

Library Registration. Please read all the documents, then bring your registration form in to the Library, or email/post it to us. If you choose the email/post option, please do not sign the form - we will keep it for you to sign when you come in to the Library to collect your card. Loan Period

Students may borrow Standard Loan items for three weeks; these items are issued to staff until the end of term. Some higher demand resources are available on 7 day loans only, but are clearly marked and there is also a small collection of Desk Loan only items. Items may be recalled at any time. The date for return is marked or stamped on the date label inside the item. Please make sure that you return or renew the items by this date. We do not send out reminders that items are overdue – it is your responsibility to bring items back on time or renew them. Items must be returned to the Library at UCH, or any of the University of Brighton Libraries.

Late Returns

Fines will be charged for overdue 7-day items; overdue items are charged at 50p per day and Desk Loan items at £1 per hour. If you owe fines you will not be able to borrow other items until all the fines are paid, but you can still renew any existing loans you have.

Renewals

You may renew items borrowed from the Library provided they are not reserved by anyone else. There are a number of ways to renew items:

  • in person
  • on the UCH OPAC (library catalogue) in the Library
  • by telephoning the Library on 01273 644640
  • online at http://library.uch.ac.uk

You can check your Library record on My Account on the UCH OPAC or online. This will show you which items you have and when they are due back. Items may be re-issued to cover the holidays.

Reservations

If you want to borrow an item that is already on loan you can reserve it yourself on the OPAC. You may have up to six reservations in progress at any one time. When the item is available we will e-mail you and keep the item for you for seven days. After this period it will either be returned to the shelves or passed on to the next person in the reservations queue.
