If we do not have the items you need we may be able to borrow them from other collections through the Inter Library Loans (ILL) service. Having checked the OPAC to ensure the item is not in the collection you will need to fill in an ILL form; there are two types of form, one for requesting a book and one for requesting journal articles.
You must get these forms countersigned by your course tutor to indicate that they are essential to the course. At present, students are restricted to six ILL requests per term. Please note that because of funding restrictions, the only students able to use this service are those registered on HE courses with partner institutions.
At present, staff have unrestricted ILL access, although we are only able to handle six requests per staff member at any one time. If you anticipate a need for your students to read particular journal articles, please talk to the Library staff who can obtain a copyright cleared copy which will be held in the Library for loan. There is no charge for the standard ILL service as part of which items are expected to be available within a two to three week period. Some items, particularly photocopies of articles from mainstream journals, will usually arrive more quickly than this.
UCH is a member of Sconul Access and students may apply for membership of other institutions via this scheme. Please ask for details at the desk if you are interested, or look at the Sconul Access website for details of participating libraries. http://www.access.sconul.ac.uk
Students studying at UCH may be eligible for membership of other universities or institutions libraries. Please ask at the desk if you are interested. You will need to get the necessary paperwork from the Library and have it authorised by us.
You will need to show us your Sconul Access card authorised by your Home University. Your membership via UCH will include borrowing and limited Internet/computer access within the Library at UCH only. You will also have access to all the University of Brighton Libraries but not computer access.
