The environment is the biggest issue of the twenty-first century - it links to every aspect of your life. If you are really interested in green issues including biodiversity, sustainability, ecology and climate change, and want to make a difference, then this could be the course for you.
Few courses offer the opportunity to share the studying of environmental issues with education in a joint honours degree. We are the only university in the UK to offer Environmental Biology with Education. With this course, you'll be able to apply what you learn in the real world in a range of interesting careers. You will understand how to effectively communicate complex issues to a wide audience, so that they will learn from you.
This course will take place at University Centre Hastings. All lecturers on this course are research-active and are leaders in the field of environmental studies and education.
And with University Centre Hastings, you will get the support you need, with small class sizes and personal support.
The course is delivered through seminars and lectures. Assessment is through both course work and exams. In your second year students have the opportunity of carrying out a placement. Their tutor helps them find an appropriate work placement matching an area of personal interest.
The environmental biology strand focuses on the key themes of biodiversity, ecology, biological and environmental sustainability including: climate change; the potential conflicts between biodiversity conservation, food and biofuel production; the environmental impacts of resource exploitation; and the consequences of resource exploitation.
Education: This strand examines ideas and ideologies, comparative education and education frameworks and systems. The programme includes the theories of education studies, comparative education and education policy.
