Early Years Care and Education will provide you with the specialist knowledge and skills you need to progress your career and gain academic credibility in early years. It will support your work with babies, toddlers and/or young children (from birth to five) in private, voluntary, independent and maintained settings. Your ongoing work experience makes up a significant part of the learning process.
This course is run by the university's School of Education which has an excellent national reputation - for example we are the first university in the country to achieve an 'outstanding' rating from Ofsted for management and quality assurance across the full range of primary, secondary and post-compulsory (16+) teacher education courses.
This programme is endorsed by the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC), and provides the required qualification for the grade of Senior Practitioner.
Much of the teaching will take place on Saturdays with some days and block weeks at the beginning and end of the years. In addition you will undertake work-based activities, reflection and private study (one day per week in total).

This foundation degree provides the required qualification for the grade of Senior Practitioner. It can also be the start of a part-time route to a full honours degree, after which you may be eligible to apply for further professional recognition, for example, Qualified Teacher Status; Early Years Professional Status.

Individual offers may vary. University Centre Hastings welcomes applications from students aged 21 and over who may not have formal qualifications but who can demonstrate appropriate experience and potential at interview.

Applicants are normally expected to meet the following: - two years experience working in an early years setting - currently working in an early years setting with at least 12 hours per week of activity-focused time with groups of children - consent from employer to support mentoring, assessment and workplace course activities - an appropriate A-level, OR a relevant NVQ/SVQ level 3 or other vocationally related NQF level 3 qualification, OR an advanced modern apprenticeship in Early Years or other appropriate subject computer access with word processing facilities and internet.
