Are you interested in producing television programmes? This practical and vocational course will provide you a range of skills for working in the television production and broadcast sector.

You will gain a working knowledge and experience within a range of roles that exist within the sector and gain practical experience in filming, sound recording, video editing, post production, planning, scriptwriting and research.

There will be the opportunity to gain an in-depth insight into areas such as single camera drama and fiction-based production, documentary filmmaking, multi-camera studio productions and outside broadcast coverage of live events.

Within these areas, you will be able to gain experience in all aspects of the preproduction, production and postproduction processes, and will be able to try your hand at all the different roles before specialising in your preferred role in the final year project.

UCH is an Avid Academic Partner. The scheme offers students the chance to use and become certified in industry-standard technology and to take advantage of Avid's close links with media production companies.

Course structure

The course is delivered through lectures, hands on workshops, seminars and screenings, and industry professional master classes. The course is assessed through practical and written course work.

Areas of study

Modules contain a large element of practical, hands-on experience using high-end media equipment. The course is equipped with industry-standard high definition field kits, Avid editing suites with Pro Tools audio editing and Solid State Audio recorders. You will also receive the necessary training in industry software packages such as Final Draft for scripting, and Movie Magic for scheduling and budgeting.

You will have the opportunity to learn from, and work with, media professionals - producers, directors, scriptwriters, directors of photography, presenters and editors in radio, film and television.

The practical focus of this foundation degree means that graduates will be equipped with the skills that organisations operating within television and film production require.

There will also be opportunities to gain work experience through our commercial production unit.

Individual offers may vary. University Centre Hastings welcomes applications from students aged 21 and over who may not have formal qualifications but who can demonstrate appropriate experience and potential at interview. 

UCAS tariff:
160 points, from a minimum of one 12-unit or two 6-unit qualifications. Level 3 Key Skills will count towards the tariff score. General Studies will count towards the tariff score.

International Baccalaureate:
24 points, specified subjects.

QAA-approved access course:
pass.

GCSE (minimum grade C):
at least 3 subjects including English language and mathematics or a science.

For non-native speakers of English:
IELTS 6.0 overall, 6.0 in writing.
