This course provides students who have completed a Foundation Degree programme in media production the opportunity to develop a range of critical, creative, technical and professional skills in their chosen specialist discipline area (radio, television or film) relevant to entering employment within the broadcasting industry at graduate level. The course also allows students to focus and specialise in a specific media production role, such as director, producer, editor, camera operator, in the second semester. This ensures that they graduate with a relevant showreel, which demonstrates their portfolio of media skills. The course facilitates a constant engagement with broadcasting companies, media professionals, and industry practitioners, who contribute to the development and the delivery of the course.

The course and the modules have all been designed to fuse and interrelate the theoretical and practical elements of the Broadcast Media field. The combination of industry standard equipment, teaching inputs from industry professionals, links with major broadcast media organisations and the structure of our assessments will allow students to experience many of the conditions of the industry so that they will graduate with relevant skills and have realistic expectations of the types of employment available to them.

Career opportunities

Elements of the course aim to support students in developing their own business ideas and freelance skills. Students are introduced to different working approaches in the Broadcast Media industry to enable them to follow careers as either media researchers or within media content production.
