Q & A Session - Community Video and Interactive Web Technology with George Butler of Mutiny Arts

Monday 13th September, 4.30-5.30pm

Venue - Lecture Theatre, University Centre Hastings, Havelock Road

Do you want to move away from linear films to interactive film production? The Korsakow (pronounced Kor-sa-kov) Interactive software empowers the user to do just that.

You are invited to a talk by George Butler of Mutiny Arts where he will show projects using Korsakow's interactive platform working with local community groups producing video content.

The Korsakow System was invented by Florian Thalhofer as an easy-to-use computer program for the creation of database interactive films.

Q&A Session - Art in the Community with Kate Adams of Project Art WorksThursday 16th September, 4.30-6pm

Venue - Lecture Theatre, University Centre Hastings, Havelock Road

Kate Adams is an artist and director of Project Art Works, an artist led organisation based in Hastings. 

Kate will talk about the complexity and beauty of collaborating in making art with people who have severe neurological impairment. In September 2010, Kate will lead on the second event of a three part non-verbal seminar in partnership with Modern Art Oxford, regional artists and organizations. She will discuss this and other innovative programmes undertaken this year by Project Art Works, opening up the session for wider discussion with the audience. 

Enterprise Workshop: Keeping it Legal (30 September 2010)

This workshop is designed to help you further understand and review the legal requirements of running your creative practice. This workshop is relevant to anyone who is considering the different legal statuses of businesses, the importance of written contracts, the rules and regulations surrounding tax & National Insurance obligations. The workshop will also include information on the self-assessment process, payment cycles and deadlines.  Experts will be available following the workshop to answer specific queries you would like to discuss. Please note this workshop finishes at 4.30pm.

 

Social Media Marketing - Industry Short Course

Monday 4th  and Monday 11th  October, 9.30am-12.45pm

Venue - Room 6.20, University Centre Hastings, Havelock Road

£150 (or £112.50 for local members)

 

This course comprises two 3hour sessions delivered over a two week period.  These sessions will be very practical based, taking place in a computer suite so that you can practice the subjects with the assistance of the course leader as they are discussed.  A list of online resources and reading will be provided and an exercise will be set each week.

 

The core focus throughout will be Facebook and Twitter, but tools such as LinkedIn, YouTube, blogs, podcasts, wikis, Flickr, Foursquare and others will also be touched upon.  Case studies and best practice examples will be shared.

 

Who is this course aimed at?

This is an entry level introduction to social media marketing for those with internet proficiency (you can use the web).  You may have marketing experience but little or no online marketing knowledge; you may have begun using social media to market your business but become confused or unsure of the potential.  You may be looking to use social media marketing to develop you personal brand, to create awareness or to understand your customers or generate sales.

Luke Mitchell is founder of Reach, a digital marketing agency specialising in the UK youth audience. Session one: The Case for Social Media & Creating Effective Social Media Assets

Monday 4th October, 9.30am-12.45pm

What is social media? How is it used? Why include it in the marketing mix? Is social media right for my business and if so, where should I focus my efforts? How can return-on-investment be measured? What are the risks and rewards of getting involved in social media marketing?  Designing your social media presence - what's required? Facebook Page verses Facebook Group. Optimisation and copywriting tips. Useful applications. Design considerations.

  

Session two: Managing and Developing your Pages & Evaluating and Improving Success

Monday 11th October, 9.30am-12.45pm

Using social media. Talking, listening, responding and being polite. Understanding social media behaviour. Marketing tactics to grow your audience.  Using advertising to stimulate activity. Monitoring and tracking success. Search engines and social media. A lexicon: Retweets, hashtags, pokes, feeds and more.

Enterprise Workshop: Entrepreneur Q&A session (28 October 2010)

This workshop comprises a Question and Answer session with a successful entrepreneur operating in the creative industries.
