****IMPORTANT**** YOUR EMAIL ACCOUNT IS CHANGING.......

The University has invested in a new system, Unimail.

  • If you have your emails forwarded to a web/home email address, as from 28 July THIS WILL NOT WORK.
  • If you have any group email addresses/distribution lists, these will need to be changed.

It is therefore recommended that you remove mail forwarding from your account at the earliest opportunity, at https://myinfo.brighton.ac.uk/ so that communcations from the university reach your university-provided email account. If you need help with this, please contact the LRC desk.

The new service is hosted in Dublin by Microsoft through their Live@edu service, which is widely used by universities both in the UK and the USA. It offers students and alumni a familiar interface based on Microsoft Hotmail (without the adverts), complete with 10GB of email storage, as well as a 25GB internet-based file storage known as a "Skydrive".

  • Students will all be given a new email address which will be theirs to keep for life.
  • Any email sent to their current/old addresses will be forwarded to their new accounts until Easter 2011.
  • Students will still be able to access their old accounts to pick up 'old' mail until Christmas 2010.
  • If students previously set a forwarding address for their university email to an external personal account, it will be removed.  This is to ensure that emails sent to student email addresses are delivered in a reliable way - something we cannot guarantee when emails are forwarded.

The university will be contacting students to advise them of these changes and to let them know their new email addresses. We will do this using all the methods we have, including:

  • An email to every student, informing them of the planned changes
  • A follow-up email when it has happened to say what their new address is
  • Notices on studentcentral (which they will need to use before they can re-enrol online), Community and through the Students Union Facebook pages
  • Fliers in libraries, computer rooms and other facilities
  • An FAQ web page at http://www.brighton.ac.uk/is/unimail
