There is a range of support available to help you manage your time and study at university. These include:

Your course handbook

Most course handbooks include guidance on assignments. Contact your school office to get a copy.

ASK Study Guide

The online ASK Study Guide is on your studentcentral homepage. Go to the 'My Tools' menu. ASK Study Guide offers advice on:

  • time management and organisation
  • how to make the most of seminars and lectures
  • reading and note-making
  • preparing for exams
  • tackling stress
  • essay writing
  • oral presentations
  • group work and more.
  • Weekly study sessions

Weekly group study support sessions are provided on each university site throughout the year. Each session lasts for 60 minutes and is led by a qualified learning support tutor. Topics include:

  • Prepare for lectures and for seminars
  • Improve your time management
  • Make your reading more effective
  • How to plan your essays / assignments
  • How to structure your essays / assignments and use references / quotations
  • Improve your oral presentations
  • Effective group working
  • How to revise and improve your exam performance
  • Dissertations, reports and projects

Sessions for academic year 2009/10 are held on Wednesdays 1-2pm, UCH Room 2.30

Student Central

Studentcentral is a web-based learning environment that provides a personalised home page to help all students and staff manage their learning and teaching.

A resource for University of Brighton students, studentcentral allows contact with tutors, learning resources and support departments.

Studentcentral can be accessed from anywhere by going to http://studentcentral.brighton.ac.uk/. You will need a username and password to login, which is given to you on joining the university.
